Current status and prospects for development of therapy targeting post-ischemic inflammation in ischemic stroke

چکیده

Although post-ischemic stroke process is essential for the repair of infarcted area, excessive inflammation during this can induce tissue damage. Damage-associated molecular patterns (DAMPs) released from injured cells in early phase ischemic cytokine and chemokine production by activating microglia, thereby facilitating neutrophil lymphocyte infiltration. However, inhibition neutrophils, lymphocytes, their associated proinflammatory molecules has shown no apparent improvement functional outcomes prognosis stroke. Therefore, selection cell types that regulate important. Considering increase infiltration activated microglia/macrophages (M/M) major pathological change humans DAMP/toll-like receptor (TLR) signaling starting point microglial activation, regulation TLR M/M may be an important therapeutic strategy management

O10: Thrombo-Inflammation in Acute Ischemic Stroke

Ischemic stroke has been classified as a merely thrombotic disease, so the main goal of its treatment is the recanalization of the occluded vasculature. However, despite fast restoration of blood circulation, progressive stroke still develops in many patients, which has led to the concept of reperfusion injury.  The underlying mechanism is only partly known. Though, it is accepted now, tha...

Neuroprotection in acute ischemic stroke – current status

With the growing understanding of the mechanism of cell death in ischemia, new approaches for treatment such as neuroprotection have emerged. The basic aim of this strategy is to interfere with the events of the ischemic cascade, blocking the pathological processes and preventing the death of nerve cells in the ischemic penumebra. This concept involves inhibition of the pathological molecular e...

Vitamin D and Ischemic Stroke

Introduction: stroke is the most important brain disease. Stroke leads to a reduction in bone density, altered calcium homeostasis, and an increase in hip fractures. Some recent studies show effects of vitamin D on stroke and vice versa. The purpose of this study was to determine of serum vitamin D levels in patients with acute stroke. Methods: In this cross-sectional study, we compared t...

dysphagia in acute ischemic stroke

Introduction: Swallowing dysfunction complicates acute strokes in 25-32% of cases and directly affects patientschr('39') prognosis and recovery. Dysphagia complicates the course of acute strokes through its potential of the development of chest infection, nutritional problems, and dehydration.  Dysphagia is also an independent predictor of respiratory morbidity and mortality in acute stroke. In...

Inflammation, homocysteine, and vitamin B6 status after ischemic stroke.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Epidemiological studies have described an association between low vitamin B6 (measured as pyridoxal 5'-phosphate [PLP]) and ischemic stroke, independent of homocysteine (tHcy). We investigated B6 status, tHcy, and inflammation (measured by C-reactive protein [CRP]) in patients with stroke and controls. METHODS Consecutive cases with new ischemic stroke were compared wit...
